FrameLift AI / Guides
A creator’s guide to YouTube Shorts video quality
Prepare portrait video, preserve timing and avoid unnecessary quality loss during a browser upscale.
Keep the portrait composition
A portrait frame is not a landscape frame that needs to be stretched. The presets preserve the source aspect ratio, so a 720 × 1280 clip can become 1080 × 1920. Clips with other aspect ratios retain those ratios. This tool does not reposition a subject, add letterboxing for a platform, or turn a horizontal composition into a vertical edit.
Avoid repeated export cycles
Finish your cut and use a high-quality source export. Repeatedly decoding and compressing a video can create ringing and block artifacts. Apply enhancement once, review the resulting file and upload it from that copy. Keep the source frame rate: an upscale adds spatial pixels, not new moments in time. Frame interpolation is not part of this application.
Compare a short section containing motion and the smallest text you need viewers to read. Sharpening does not reliably restore lettering that was too small to capture. When possible, render titles and captions at the intended final resolution in your editor.
Review after platform processing
A local preview is only one stage. A publishing platform can produce additional compressed versions, and viewers may receive different versions depending on connection and device. Check your published result after platform processing finishes. No particular preset guarantees reach, platform approval or a specific playback codec. Use the platform’s current upload guidance when choosing delivery settings.
